Natural charcoal sticks are the oldest sketching and drawing medium in the world. Their gray-blue hue glides smoothly across the paper, rubs and smudges easily, can be erased effortlessly, and layered repeatedly. Their bluish hue has always been fascinating, even to the old masters. Charcoal pencils leave a much blacker line. Compressed charcoal mixed with soot and clay gives charcoal pencils their deep black color and allows them to be produced in various degrees of hardness.
