Acrylic brushes

Acrylic is a diverse and popular paint that allows you to express your creativity and unleash your imagination on a canvas. Acrylic paint has been a great alternative to oil paint for many years, as many find acrylics easier to use and control, especially if you're a beginner. In addition, acrylic paints dry significantly faster than many other paints. But your work won't amount to much if you don't have the most important tool - the brush!

The brush you use has a huge impact on your artwork and allows you to achieve different effects and textures. An acrylic brush is specially designed for acrylic paints, which are water-based and quick-drying. With the right brush, you can easily handle the paint and make different kinds of brush strokes. They ensure an outstanding result that takes your artwork to the next level.

At Stellings you can find acrylic brushes from recognized brands such as da Vinci and Escoda. If you're looking for a slightly cheaper solution, you can always explore our own affordable products.

What kind of brush should I use for acrylic paint?

When using a brush for acrylic paints, it's important that you find a brush made from synthetic fibers instead of natural materials such as pig or marten hair. Synthetic brushes are flexible and less susceptible to damage by acrylic paint, which has a thick texture and dries quickly. The bristles on an acrylic brush will therefore most often be nylon or polyester. Nylon brushes are versatile and can be used for many different painting techniques, whereas a polyester brush is stiffer and remains rigid even when wet with paint. It's better for painting precise lines and detailed designs.

In addition, synthetic brushes are also a lot cheaper than natural hair brushes, making them a great choice for beginners and artists on a budget. They are also significantly easier to clean, as acrylic paint can be difficult to remove from marten and pig hair. However, it's important to note that there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to buying acrylic paint brushes. Your personal preferences and specific painting techniques may require different, specialized brushes. However, it's always a good idea to have a wide selection of brush sizes and shapes to cover all your art needs. By experimenting with different types of brushes, you can quickly find the ones that best suit your art style and artistic goals.

How do I clean my acrylic brushes?

As soon as you're done painting, rinse your brushes with lukewarm water. It's important to make sure there is no residual paint on them. You can massage the bristles under running water to remove any remaining paint. Once you've rinsed all the brushes you've used, place them in a container with lukewarm water and a mild soap or brush soap. Swirl the brushes in the soapy water, but be careful not to get the iron ring wet as this can loosen the bristles over time. Rinse the brushes one last time before drying them with a clean towel and shaping them.
