What is graphite?

Graphite is a form of carbon found naturally in the earth. Graphite is known for its softness and its ability to make dark marks when written or drawn with. Graphite has therefore been used for thousands of years to make various writing instruments and is still a key ingredient in the production of graphite pencils today. Graphite can also be used for many other purposes, including lubricants, batteries and electrodes.

Graphite pencils come in different degrees of hardness, indicated by letters and numbers. The softest pencils have a hardness of B, while the hardest pencils have a hardness of H. HB pencils are an intermediate between the two and are the most common pencil used for writing and drawing.

In addition, there are also special graphite pencils that can be used with water to create soft and fluid effects in drawings and paintings.

Besides their versatility and practicality, graphite pencils are also known for their aesthetic properties. Some artists and designers use graphite pencils to create detailed and realistic sketches and drawings, while others use them to create more abstract and expressive works.
