Amsterdam

Amsterdam acrylic paints are produced by Dutch Royal Talens, itself a subsidiary of Sakura Color Products Corporation of Japan. Royal Talens has been around since 1899 and produces a wide range of fine products. Their experience with acrylic paints dates back to 1970. They have since become one of the most well-known and widely used brands on the market - and with good reason.

Acrylic paints from Amsterdam - 7 distinctive features:

  1. The relationship between pigment and binder. Amsterdam has a high pigment to binder ratio, which gives good colour strength and makes the paint easier to mix.
  2. The pigments paint incredibly finely. Amsterdam uses three-roller grinders, which ensure that the pigments are distributed widely throughout the paint and therefore do not clump together, either in the container or during use.
  3. High light fastness. The pigments in Amsterdam acrylic paints are all lightfast and of high quality, ensuring that works painted with Amsterdam's Standard product line are so strong, durable and chemically stable that they age in a slow and predictable manner.
  4. Both opaque and transparent colours in the same range. Because both types of colours can be found in the range, you as the artist get great flexibility and a complete palette.
  5. Made with 100% acrylic binder. Unlike some other acrylic paint manufacturers on the market, Amsterdam's binder is made exclusively with acrylic. This provides the great durability and firmness that characterizes top quality acrylic paints.
  6. Alkali resistant. Alkalis are highly alkaline chemicals, and since Amsterdam acrylic paints do not react with them, you can paint over walls or other materials that need to be cleanable and washable from time to time.
  7. Unique, patented formulation. Amsterdam has developed special recipes that make the paint almost odourless, ensuring that the product is suitable for working in your own home, or with others, in a learning situation for example.

In addition to the benefits already mentioned, Amsterdam has a delicious texture that works equally well on canvas or on the wall in the children's room. Their acrylic paints are formulated in such a way that there is a consistent gloss across the whole range. This means you're guaranteed the same, great look even if you mix or combine the colours.

Amsterdam - paint for everyone

Along with the uniform gloss, there is also a uniform price across all the products. Therefore, you don't have to navigate through individually priced colours, but simply focus on buying the paints you need right now.

The Amsterdam lines are available in 120 and 500 ml sizes. If you need paint in smaller portions, or if you like to apply the paint directly from tube to substrate, we recommend our dosing tips, which are specially adapted to the 120 ml tubes.

Amsterdam is therefore a high-quality acrylic paint with great versatility, and at Stelling we stock as many as 70 different bright and beautiful colours from the range, which is constantly being developed, improved and new colours added.

Amsterdam Standard Series

The Amsterdam Standard series is an acrylic paint of the so-called Studio classification. "Studio", or "student" as it is also sometimes known, is a cheaper classification than the finer "Artist", or "Expert" as it is called by Royal Talens, the company behind Amsterdam.

The rule of thumb is that Studio should be affordable alternatives that can be used when creating studio works and/or in learning situations where a lot of acrylic paint needs to be flung onto a surface in a hurry and it would be too costly to use Artist.

So don't be fooled by the name. So even though it's a cheaper product with fewer pigments and a less good binder, you can still easily use these series for your finished works - even as a professional artist. This can be especially relevant if you are creating very large works or have a high production output where you simply need to use a lot of paint.

The quality of pigments can vary. You will therefore sometimes find that paints in the Studio ranges have different amounts of colour pigment in them, and some colours from the Artist ranges are not available in Studio quality at all, as the pigments are simply too expensive for a more affordable range.
